A real danger photographing Elephant seals is their highly reflective fur. It's deceptive because it appears generally medium tone. Until I reviewed my first day's work shooting images of these guys, I hadn't noticed the highly reflective nature of their fur. Blown highlights were very common. So, much more than usual, I pulled the exposure to keep the highlights within the capabilities of my camera.
