Subadult Elephant Seal Sleeping.

Nikon D1h, 300mm f/2.8 AF-S, TC-20e, Matrix Metering, +0.3EV, 1/180, f/8, RAW Format, Auto WB, Auto Tone, Gitzo 410, Wimberly Sidekick.

Elephant Seals spend most of their days sleeping in a pile with other seals. Even the Subadult Males that occasionally scuffle with each other tend to congregate together. I sat with this male for an hour hoping he'd open an eye without success. Even though he'd occassionally scratch his head or side, he'd never open that eye. Oh well.
