Backlit Big Horn Sheep Looking Up
Nikon D1h, 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S, Matrix Metering, f/8, 1/125sec, ISO 200, Gitzo 410, Wimberly Sidekick, Kirk BH-1 I am a big fan of back/side lit subjects. Unfortunately, exposure can be a bit tricky. My F5 was excellent in this regard. It seemed to me its matrix metering was spot on and didn't require any compensation. My D1h was a different story. Highlights are extremely sensitive to overexposure. As a result, special care has to be made to ensure that doesn't happen. The best way is to shoot what you think are the correct settings, check the histogram right after shooting, adjust your settings, then fire again.
