I think most photographers dread overcast skies because the tones are so muted. I personally love overcast skies because the tones are so muted. The point is, you don't have to worry about overly bright highlights or extremely dark shadows in these conditions. The whole tone of the scene is usually well within the range of most slide films and digital camers. In this case, a small amount of fill flash was used to make the bird "pop" against the extremely bright background.
