Sandhill Crane In-Flight

Nikon D1h, 500mm f/4 AF-S, TC-14e, Matrix Metering, 1/320sec, f/8, -0.3EV, ISO 200, RAW Format, Gitzo 410, Wimberly Side Kick.

This bird had just taken off though his left leg is still dangling. I suspect he had some sort of problem with it and took quite awhile to retract it to the normal stream-lined position that his right leg enjoys. Setting the aperture at f/8 expanded the DOF of this image but the slow shutter speed--1/320sec--allowed the wings to become blurry. As always, there's give and take in anything we do.
