000719 Yawning Horse

Horses are wonderful animals. If you've never spent any time around them you'll completely amazed by the personalities they exhibit. As cooperative stars on TV or in the movies, I don't believe their' real character's become as obvious as when watching in the field. I've spent dozens of hours traveling by the various farms and ranches near where I live and have had lots of opportunities to see these animals act the way they do.

Now I don't have anything against cows and such but I don't think they're at the top of the intelligence list of farm animals. Sort of as an example is if you should stop by a field full of cows minding their own business, chewing their cud or whatever, they'll probably never give you the time of the day. Approach a horse that looks like it's day dreaming, it'll notice you in a heart beat. Unlike deer or other game animals, horses don't have the flight reflex gut they do take notice of their surroundings.

This image was taken during a winter snow squall that was breaking out into wonderful sun filled day. I'd been watching this corral of horses for an hour and learning a bit about the personalities of each animal. This particular individual barred his teeth at me, showed off his tongue, and finally yawned - this photo. I completely enjoyed my time with him. Instead of disp
