Cold Lake Alberta | |||||||||||||||||
The Cold Lake region in Eastern Alberta has two claims to fame-Canada's largest air force base and a large oil establishment. Traditionally the region is based in farming but that has taken a backseat to highly profitable oil exploration efforts. Still, the area is widely diverse with wildlife and scenic landscapes. Essentially, folks around here can go out their back doors and walk all the way to the North Pole without crossing a single paved road. Being relatively north for a community, the sunlight can last as long as 17 hours and the summer and only 7 in the winter. This yields a lengthy "magic hour" that can stretch for a couple of hours at dawn and dusk everyday in the summer.

Banff & Jasper NP | |||||||||||||||||
Whatever I say about these parks will not do them justice. In a word, they're incredible. The mountains are majestic. The sunrises and sunsets are awesome. The local wildlife is accessible and even cooperative. These parks are a photographer's dream. Even though they've been photographed extensively, there are hundreds of areas that haven't exhausted their potential. I've only touched the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully you'll find these parks just as inspiring.

Waterton Lakes NP | |||||||||||||||||
Waterton is about the smallest of Canada's Rocky Mountain National Parks. Located next to more famous US Glacier NP, Waterton NP is known for it's reflective lakes and fabulous wild flowers in the summer. I've only had one trip there and was impressed. I hope to make it back for another visit soon.

Cypress Hills PP | |||||||||||||||||
Located on the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan, Cypress Hills Provincial Park posses the highest point between Canada's eastern mountains and the Rockies. As an island ridge on a sea of farmland, this park has special characteristics that include significant historical events during Canada's push west.
