This image is evidence you don't need a catchlight in the eye to make the bird look alive. He looks like he freshly feasted and is scanning the area for his next meal. No, he doesn't look dead without the catchlight. I like the even light which was a problem processing through Photoshop to ensure the brightness wasn't too dark.
