There's always the danger of over doing flash and eliminating the slight shadows that give subjects their 3-D appearance. This image is suffering a bit from being flat because of the amount of fill used. Still, I like it because of its atypical appearance. The bird is bright against the subdued background which really makes it distinct. Images like this shouldn't always work but it does in this case.
